Dubai: Jumeirah road, parts of Al Sufouh and Umm Suqueim road will be closed down from 6am to 12pm on Friday for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016, it was announced on Thursday.

Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency said that roads will be opened gradually after the starting time at 9am.


 

“All affected roads should be open to the public by 12pm,” she said.

Jumeirah Road will be closed from the Union House intersection to the Madinat Jumeirah intersection and Al Sufouh road will be closed from the Madinat Jumeirah intersection to Dubai Media City Intersection, near Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort.

Umm Suqueim road will be closed from the Madinat Jumeirah intersection to the intersection near Dubai Police Academy, and Al Wasl road will be closed from the intersection at Al Thaneya street to the intersection near the Dubai Police Academy.

Part of Al Thaneya street from Al Wasl to Jumeirah will also be affected.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the event. We urge people to follow RTA and Dubai Police instructions so that the race would be a success,” she said.

Adel Al Marzouqi, Director of Right of Way Department at RTA, said “We have informed residents in areas where the marathon will pass through, that they should not park their vehicles on the main road, but on inner roads,” he said.

They would not be allowed to drive on the road during the marathon, he said.

Colonel Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Deputy Head of the Event Security Committee and Deputy Director of the Department of Protective Security and Emergency at Dubai Police, said 12 police patrols will accompany the runners from start to finish.
