Sharjah: Sharjah Police has set a new world record for creating the first ever and the largest driving license that has earned it an entry in the Guinness World Records.
The driving licence, an original copy of the driving licence of the police chief, was created from the same material as the original and measures 1.94 metres in length and 2.94 metres in width, with total area measuring 5.7 square metres.
The initiative aims to raise awareness on the importance of the driving licence.
Huda Khashab, project manager at Guinness World Records, who oversaw the attempt, made the announcement and handed Brigadier Saif Ziri Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police, the Guinness certificate on Tuesday morning.
Brig Al Shamsi said the first and most important purpose of the driver licence is to notify law enforcement personnel that you have obtained your licence and are legally allowed to operate a motor vehicle. “Possessing a driving licence will not just be official proof, it would give the holder a sense of pride that he is a qualified driver. To own a licence, one should prepare to abide by the rules as well as pass practical tests.
“We are delighted at the new achievement and we thank all those who took part [in it],” said Brigadier Al Shamsi.
He said that he was proud and happy that this achievement has placed Sharjah on the world map.
“This landmark [creation] is a gift for Lt General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for his efforts in creating initiatives to improve security work.”
The ceremony was attended by a number of senior police officers.
