Sharjah: A new scheme introduced by Sharjah Taxi aims to make it easier for low-income earners to travel by taxi to Dubai from Sharjah.

"On Sunday we launched a new shared taxi service that can accommodate up to seven passengers. Each person will only have to pay Dh4 to go to any of three destinations in Dubai," said Jasem Al Beloushi, director of Sharjah Taxi.

The low-fare taxis will start their trip from National Paints roundabout and drop off passengers at Al Qusais Industrial Area, Jamal Abdul Nasser Square in Deira, and Al Quoz Industrial Area.

"National Paints roundabout was chosen as the terminal because many people living in the area are workers who cannot afford to use the regular taxis," said Al Beloushi.

Sharjah Taxi will use eight dedicated vehicles for the new service and plans to commit an additional 30 vehicles by January, he said.

Sharjah Taxi is currently the only franchise company that offers shared taxi services.

"If people wanted to save costs, they used to take the inter-emirate bus for Dh5. But by paying Dh1 less, they can get to their destination faster than by using the bus," Al Beloushi said. Similar services will also be offered to two new destinations in Ajman by September, he added.

The taxis to Ajman will start at the main taxi terminal in Al Rolla and drop off passengers at Ajman City Centre and Industrial Area.

Sharjah Taxi is also looking to strengthen its overall fleet and plans to get an additional 100 vehicles operational in July.

Do you think this service will be a success? Would you use it? Which areas do you think would benefit from this service?

This is Time to celebrate actually, becouse here in Sharjah to Dubai Taxi fares are too high, as a small earner how we can manage?.

A very good concept to be admired with. Well appreicated and looks workable. I fully agree with Rejith's views on this subject. Besides, it would be very helpful and traffic friendly if Ajman Taxis while returning from Dubai/Shajah or vice versa can carry passengers instead of coming empty. Any comments!

This is a welcome move from Sharjah Transport Authority. If this service is extended upto Jebel Ali, that will be beneficial to the most of the middle income workers who are daily commuting from National paints area to jebel ali. this also will ease up the traffic conjuction in and around National paints area.

This is a very good move. I hope the taxis start from all the places. It should also be possible to get down and get in to the taxi between two places. Hope, this also would start soon. Anyways, good move.

YA, That's really a good move by the Sharjah Transport authorities, as I've seen so many people walking as they cannot afford for a private taxi. Hats of to the person who suggested and Implemented the same. May be they can try and connect more places like Karama, Deira and Bur Dubai if possible. Because these are the paces where the many people would would like to go and meet their friends.

It is encouraging step ...yet more are left to be solved for those who live in Al Nahda, Al Taewun, Al khan, Sharjah city center...( generally all areas who live before Rolla). There is no any other means of transportation to Dubai except Taxi. Even there is no bus stop with the RTA Dubai- Sharjah bus. There should be bus stops in Sharjah to get on board while leaving Sharjah to Dubai and same the bus should pick from different stations of Dubai while going to Sharjah. Otherwise, the solution is only for those who live near Rolla and same stations of Dubai.

It would be appreciated if this Service will be available from Al Wahda/Jamal Abdul Nasser Sharjah to Dubal as well. Commuters from these areas are going to Rolla by taxi and then by bus to Dubai which is also costly and time consuming. Thanks Sharjah Taxi.

Good move by sharjah taxi authorities sure it will be great success. the low income earners will get benefit from this service. Now if they want to go to dubai from National Paint Roundabout they have to come to Fish market bus station to take dubai bus they have to spent the same amount DH4.Now same amout they can reach dubai.Good move to indroduce new services from Rolla to New Industrial Area and City Center in Ajman overall low income community will use this service. Thanks for the Sharjah Sharing Taxi Service Authorities.

It does seem to be a nice step but it will only lead to an increase in traffic I think. Rather it should be done on Mini Vans/Coasters that have more capacity than a Taxi has. One more step that would ease the problems of Sharja Bus users for Dubai is, increase the number of Bus stands/Passenger picker stands as it is quite difficult to reach the only Bus stand in Sharjah from various/remote locations.

Its really helpful move from the sharjah transport as now there is lots of people using illegal taxi who charge 10 to 15 dirhams per trip to dubai..Even if you start a service from sharjah rolla to dubai also it will be helpfull for the residents in sharjah as they are travelling long to fish market and wait in que for long time to reach duabi...If the sharjah transport starts a taxi service from rolla station to duabi can avoid a large extend of illegal taxis

I feel, only solution to beat the traffic conjunction on internal roads of sharjah is to operate mini bus services between Rolla, Industrial Area, Al Nahda, National Paints, University city, Al Ghubaiba bus station, Al Qusais etc. Now Emirates Road is already spoiled by making a bottle neck at industrial area in Sharjah. Please wakeup.....

i was very happy to hear the new service started by sharjah taxi .its a great service.other emirates should follow the footsteps of sharjah taxi.but still there are low incomers living around sharjah ,if sharjah taxi also opens its service from al rolla square ,it would be really very grateful for all the low incomers incomers living around sharjah.they will all be very greatfull to the people who introduced this sharing taxi scheme .may allah give them all prosperity and good health, because of bringing smiles in the face of these people. sure every taxi in the UAE should follow the footsteps of sharjah taxi.

Although I am not using taxi, I have my own car. I also stay in the national paints area and I see there so many workers struggling to reach dubai. It is a boon for them, but the 8 taxis are too less in numbers. It is a good attempt by the Sharjah Taxi, appreciate their commitment. A request for them is to increase the number of taxis as soon as possible. It will really help these low income earners. On behalf of these workers, I thank you Sharjah Taxi for the kind gesture.

It is thrilling change especially the middle class people'saving not less than Dh.50 when making a trip to Dubai. I feel a good old time has returned when we had only to pay maximum Dhs.5 to reach Dubai from Sharjah.I look forward to starting the taxis from different location in Sharjan.

This service is a big help for the people.Currently there is no service from national paint to dubai. If any one want to go to dubai from national paint we have to go to rolla bus station and from there only we will get bus to dubai. This is a great service by Sharjah Taxi. But they have to provide more vehicles for this service. This eight vehicle is not enough. It is very difficult to get a share taxi from national paint to rolla also. They have to provide more vehicles.

It's really very good move because there is no bus facilty to Dubai from National Paint area. This shall benefit many commuters i appreciate if they could introduce another route to Jebel Ali Free Zone or Industrial Area its just a little further than Al Quoz Industrial Area to benefit the daily commuters from National Paint to Jabel Ali for going to their work daily.

If you come to sharjah rolla now, you can see big line of passengers to ajman. You can start bus service from rolla to ajman with minimum of 2-3 dirhams and it will be better for the passengers. Also if you can start bus from rolla to dubai will be better instead of the bus station, because now also most of the people from ajman and other places coming to rolla and then going to other places. You can use the same stand as before in rolla instead of keeping the big ground with covering and I feel it is only a hindrance for the people.
