Abu Dhabi: Schools and transport companies that use buses for purposes other than transporting children to and from school could face strict penalties, the emirate of Abu Dhabi’s transportation regulator said in a statement sent today (October 11).

In addition, buses designated for schools must be equipped with the all the mandated equipment, including CCTV cameras, the Department of Transport (DoT) statement said. Bus workers must meet and follow all guidelines set out in the School Transport Regulations as they represent the first line of defence against life-endangering situations.

Brigadier Hussain Al Harithi, director-general of central operations at Abu Dhabi Police and chairman of the executive committee of school transport in Abu Dhabi, said that punitive measures and actions will be pursued against entities that fail to abide by transportation regulations.
