Dubai: Several vehicular accidents around Dubai, and in some parts of Abu Dhabi, brought traffic to near standstill on major highways early Tuesday morning.
At least three accidents were reported in different parts of the city, affecting motorists plying Shaikh Zayed Road, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road and near Al Khail Road.
As of 10am, long traffic jams spanning more than 10 kilometres stalled drivers and commuters on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, particularly those coming from Sharjah and moving towards the direction of Rashidiya or Mirdif in Dubai, according to Google live traffic updates.
Motorists on both directions of the Dubai-Sharjah Road were likewise encountering delays.
Within the city centre, Jumeirah-bound vehicles on Al Safa St, just in front of City Walk, were also experiencing long tailbacks. Traffic at a section of Al Wasl Road was met with delays as well.
TrafficDXB reported on Twitter at past 9am that an accident occurred on the major highway, causing “added congestion to rush-hour traffic” in the area.
Another accident was reported earlier on D61 Hessa St after the Al Khail Road Exit, as well as on Shaikh Zayed Road near the World Trade Centre roundabout, affecting traffic flow moving towards Bur Dubai.
In Abu Dhabi, at least three accidents, and a broken down truck, slowed down traffic on International Airport Road and other parts of the capital.
