Dubai: A strategic road linking Dubai and Hatta via Lehbab is to be constructed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, said a senior official

The road will be constructed as part of the Dh1.3 billion Hatta Development Plan recently approved by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. The Dubai-Lehbab-Hatta road will cost Dh54 million.

“Over the next two years, RTA will also design and construct residential roads at Makan community and crushers area at Hatta costing about Dh15 million,” said Al Tayer.

He added that RTA is currently designing gates featuring a design inspired by traditional architecture for the entrances of Hatta. “The construction of the first gate will finish in the first half of 2017. RTA will continue improvement works in the infrastructure and services relating to roads and transport in support of future development plans at Hatta,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer said that the RTA is keen on improving the road network to meet the needs of demographic and urban expansion resulting in rising traffic volumes that require measures to streamline the traffic movement in various part of Dubai emirate. “RTA is also keen on improving mass transit modes in Dubai and developing integrated solutions of roads and marine transport systems that are safe for users, match the comprehensive development plans, encourage development and tourism and bring happiness to residents,” he noted.

Over the past years, he said, RTA has delivered a series of road projects linking Hatta with its neighbourhood.
