Dubai: Motorists looking for unique vehicle licencing plates are being given another opportunity to bid in the next plates auction at the end of the month, said Dubai roads officials on Friday.

As many as 80 licence plates will be auctioned by the Roads and Transport Authority in its 96th public auction at JW Marriott Marquis Hotel on September 30.

Plates on offer comprise three, four and five digits under Codes F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T.

Registration of bidders will start on Sunday, September 24.

On auction day, bidding will start at 4.30pm.

Sultan Al Marzouqi, director of Vehicles licensing, RTA Licensing Agency, said in a statement: “The wide participation of the public in online or open auctions, and the positive competition to obtain numbers underscore the importance of holding these auctions for bringing happiness and satisfaction to customers.

Participation in the auction requires opening an account through RTA website (www.rta.ae) or using the new user link to obtain a username and password. The bidder has to deposit a security cheque amounting to Dh25,000 and Dh120 as a participation fee at one of RTA’s Customers Happiness Centres at Umm Ramool, Bur Dubai, Deira or Al Twar Municipal Centre. If using a credit card, the security amount is Dh25,000 and the auction fee is Dh20.”

The successful bidder must pay the due amount within 10 working days from the auction closing date by cash or credit card through service providers’ centres or RTA’s Customer Happiness Centres.

Cash payments are acceptable up to Dh50,000.

For higher amounts, payment can be made by a certified check/credit card, or online, using a credit card too. Defaulters will be blacklisted.
