Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have launched an app for inspectors, making it harder for motorists to dodge parking tickets.

A senior RTA official explained that the introduction of the new app on smart phones was intended to facilitate the job of parking inspectors, while on the other hand, it will also ease the processing of parking permits in the emirate of Dubai.

The step is part of RTA’s efforts to equip parking inspectors with the latest hi-tech devices, and ensure that parking permits are issued quickly.

“Following the introduction of the smart parking inspection app, which guides inspectors to vehicles in breach of the rule governing public parking in Dubai, a new feature had been added to the app,” said Eng. Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency.

“This feature is to enable the speedy processing of applications for issuing and renewing permits related to booking parking slots, occupying pavements, investing private land plots as parking areas, as well as private parking permits for citizens,” she said.

Bin Udai explained that the agency had provided hi-tech equipment for inspecting parking permits and processing parking applications, offering, for example, enhanced and more accurate images of applications for parking services and related offences.

“The GPS technology would also be used in pinpointing the locations of issued and new permits,” she continued.

“The new app would enhance the efficiency of parking inspectors, ease field jobs in terms of expediting the taking of right decisions in endorsing parking permits, or issuing offence tickets to incompliant retail outlets,” she added.
