Dubai: The Roads and Transports Authority has endorsed a Dh250 million contract to build roads and bridges at Dubai Parks and Resorts project in cooperation with Meraas Holding.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the bridges and roads will link the new project situated at Shaikh Zayed Road in the direction from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, four kilometres from Seeh Shoaib.

The new project, expected to open in October 2016, is being designed as an international leisure destination to attract tourists, from the region in particular but also from around the world.

Construction will begin on a “three-lane bridge stretching 1,500 metres as a main entry on the Shaikh Zayed Road for vehicles coming from Dubai and heading to Dubai Parks, and the construction of a two-lane bridge stretching 1,000 metres as a main exit on Shaikh Zayed Road from Dubai Parks in the direction of Abu Dhabi. The project also comprises road works within Dubai Parks to link with Shaikh Zayed Road and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road,” Al Tayer said.

“Works also cover roads extending 16km comprising a dual carriageway of two lanes in each direction in addition to other works within the project zone extending 9km. The project works also include lighting, traffic signs, rainwater drainage, utility lines, besides shifting and protecting utility lines intercepting project works such as electricity, water, communication and others,” he said.

The Dubai Parks and Resorts project will comprise three theme parks: Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai, and Legoland Dubai in addition to one water park: Legoland Water Park. The development will also feature Riverland Dubai comprising 35 retail outlets, 20 food and beverage shops, 65 restaurants and other business locations.

Motiongate Dubai will feature Hollywood-inspired designs comprising 27 innovative attractions and a special zone for displaying DreamWorks Animation in 12 facilities, and games, a wide offering of restaurants and shopping areas.

Bollywood Parks Dubai will experience the vibrant celebration of Mumbai’s famous film industry with a rich 800-person stage for showcasing local talent and Bollywood celebrities, considered the first of its kind worldwide.

The development will also host Hotel Lapita, a Polynesian themed resort comprising 503 rooms for hosting visitors intending to spend more than one day in this massive park to savour the festive atmosphere and performances.
