Dubai: Renewal of registration for cars less than three years old can only be done online or through RTA’s self-service kiosks starting from August 15, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Sunday.

From next month, two more services will be available online only.

According to RTA, applying for replacement of a lost registration card as well as retention of licence plates will be allowed only through RTA’s website, its Drivers and Vehicles app as well as through RTA’s self-service kiosks.

The move comes after RTA implemented a similar policy for fleet owners last year, pushing the electronic transition to as much as 90 per cent.

Ahmad Behrooziyan, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, said: “We will gradually cease the offering of some services through customer service centre starting from August 15. The services will be re-routed to RTA portal (www.rta.ae), the smart app (Drivers and Vehicles) and the self-service kiosks.”

He added: “The services to be diverted are renewal of vehicle registration for individuals whose vehicles do not require testing, issuing vehicle registration card in replacement for a lost one, and renewing number retention service. These services are applicable to vehicles less than three years of age.”

He said that RTA continuously endeavours to provide the best means and channels of delivering services matching the highest international standards in offering individual and corporate services.

“The alternative smart and electronic apps are immensely popular with the business sector as well as individuals since they save their time and effort as well as the hassle of waiting for processing their transactions at customer car centres. The diversion will make life easier for them as customers are no longer required to report to service centres,” he added.
