Ras Al Khaimah: The RAK Transport Authority started its bus services yesterday to other emirates including Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai.

The new service has started with nine buses and the number of trips to the other emirates will be determined according to the needs of the passengers.

The new service will begin from the taxi stand at the entrance of Ras Al Khaimah and is expected to receive a positive reaction from passengers.

Yousuf Esmail, vice-chairman and managing director of the RAK Transport Authority said the new buses, with the world's best highest technology and maximum passenger comfort, were introduced to offer the service.

He said the necessary agreements and arrangements with the concerned destination emirates have already been secured.

A trip to Umm Al Quwain will cost the passenger Dh10; a trip to Ajman will cost Dh15, an a trip to either Sharjah or Dubai will cost Dh20.

Esmail said new routes will soon be opened to the other emirates to cover all of the UAE, where Ras Al Khaimah will shortly end up fully connected with all the emirates with this bus service.

He said the RAK Transport Authority had already struck a deal with authorities of the concerned emirates to set up a new central station in Al Nakheel area.

Do you think this initiative is necessary? Will this encourage more movement between emirates? Would you use this transportation once it is started?

A great move by RAK transport authority. It would definitely give the riding public living in RAK and the Northern Emirates a big relief and convenience since they dont have to spend much money paying taxis to travel to other Emirates. Hopefully in the future, they include also Abu Dhabi as part of their route.
