Dubai: Special two-, three-, four- and five-digit number plates went under the hammer on Saturday fetching Dh27.751 million at the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) 95th distinguished number plates auction.

Among the top draws were R13 that went for Dh2.92 million and H33 that fetched Dh2.82 million, while O69 and W999 went for Dh1.68 million and Dh1.4 million, respectively.

The auction had 80 unique number plates for the taking, with the likes of S66666, winning a bid of Dh680,000, and O6666 going for Dh560,000.

P4444 and K88888 also bagged big numbers at Dh580,000 and Dh670,000, respectively.

Ahmad Hashem Behroozian, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, said the revenue of Dh27.751 million raised from the 95th Open Auction reflects the remarkable popularity and demand for unique number plates in Dubai.

“The number plates auctions organised by the RTA are marked by transparency and enthusiasm. They measure up to the aspirations of customers who seek exclusivity in this regard,” said Behroozian.

Last November, D5, the first single digit number offered by RTA in an open auction, was grabbed by a Dubai-based Indian businessman Balwinder Sahani for a record Dh33 million.

In December, another single digit number Q2 was up for grabs. However, after generating enormous interest the number went unsold due to a high base price.
