Abu Dhabi: Visitors to Yas Island will be treated to organised, readily available and even free public transport from November 27-29 in light of the upcoming Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Department of Transport (DoT) announced today.

Around 6,000 parking spots in Shahama await those who wish to park their cars and take the bus to Gate 18 at the Yas Marina Circuit while five buses will provide a free shuttle service from the Nation Tower’s car park in Abu Dhabi Corniche to Yas Mall and Ferrari World.

Guests holding ‘W’ parking passes can also use a parking area located on the island and more buses will take guests across the Yas Plaza Hotels, Ferrari World, Yas Water World, Yass Mall, Yas Marina and the Yas Marina Circuit’s gates.

“Around 80 buses will be located on the island during November 27-29, allowing easy transportation of all guests in a timely manner in case of an emergency. These efforts are al made in coordination with safety authorities,” Saeed Mohammad Fadel Al Hameli, general manager of Bus Office and Head of DoT’s Events Committee, said during the announcement.

“These steps are all being taken in a bid to ease congestion on the island during these major events and to ensure that all passengers travel in an environment and economically friendly way,” he added.

“The Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars (TransAD) will also provide 600 taxis on the first two days of the event and 1,000 vehicles for hire on the day of the race,” Al Hameli added.

F1 fans can commute from Abu Dhabi to Yas Island on the following bus numbers: 170,180,190,195, 200, 201,202, 203, 300, 302, and 304 which run daily from 8am to 11pm.
