Dubai: Nine people were injured in separate accidents on Saturday and Sunday.

Colonel Jamal Al Bannai, Acting Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said one person sustained moderate injuries when a truck overturned on Saturday. The truck’s tyre exploded, causing it to swerve, overturn on Shaikh Zayed Road and block two lanes.

Also on Saturday, three people were injured when two vehicles crashed on Shaikh Rashid Road at around 10.30pm. Col Al Bannai said that one of the two vehicles was moving against the flow of traffic, coming from the Sana intersection, and hit a taxi. Two of the injured people sustained moderate injuries but one was severely injured.

A truck overturned during the early hours of Sunday, but no injuries were reported. Col Al Bannai said the operations room received a call at 3.20am about a truck overturning on Emirates Road after Al Maktoum Airport in the Abu Dhabi direction.

“Preliminary investigation of the accident scene showed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding, which caused the truck to swerve, hit the metal barrier on the left side of the road and the lamp post and then skid onto the other side of the road and block two lanes,” he said.

The truck, the lamp post, the metal barrier and a road sign were damaged in the accident.

Also on Sunday, one person sustained severe injuries, one person was moderately injured and three sustained minor injuries when a vehicle swerved and crashed into the road barriers. The accident took place on Shaikh Zayed Road after the Emirates Petrol Station in the Saih Shuaib direction.
