Dubai: Expanding its reach in Gulf waters, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the 34th marine station in Dubai.
The newest station that caters only to water taxis is located near Waldorf Astoria Hotel at Palm Jumeirah.
Marine stations are lined up all along the shore of Dubai as well as Deira Creek and other water bodies in the city.
Some of the stations cater to all marine modes while others serve only a particular mode like water taxi or water bus.
“The RTA is always keen on delivering services that cater to the needs of the public, including tourists who come to Dubai from all corners of the globe,” said Mohammad Masoud Al Janahi, Acting Director of Marine Transport.

Water taxis can accommodate up to 11 passengers and are equipped with air-conditioning, business class seating, and LCD monitors, among other things. They measure 11 metres in length and four metres in width, weigh nine tonnes and can travel at a speed up to 35 knots.
They are fitted with two eco-friendly engines of 370hp, the best navigational devices approved by the International Marine Organisation, and the world’s highest safety security and safety standards, said the authority.
