Sharjah: The roundabout underneath the National Paints flyover was partially closed on Sunday for an indefinite period of time, said a senior official at Sharjah Police.

"The roundabout will be partially closed temporarily. We are conducting a trial period to estimate the traffic movement in the area as the roundabout is always congested with traffic," said Brig Ahmad Bin Darwish, Head of Patrol Section at Sharjah Police.

The roundabout was closed by the Department of Public Works in coordination with Sharjah Police.

The closure will minimise the traffic pressure on the National Paints flyover. Underneath the flyover, a traffic light has been installed in addition to a signboard.

Brig Bin Darwish said the roundabout is always congested during peak times, and explained that alternative routes are available for motorists.

Motorists travelling from Sharjah to Dubai will have to go through the roundabout at Industrial Area 4, and then take the exit to the right heading towards the intersection at Industrial Area 5, that will lead towards Dubai.

Those travelling from Dubai to Sharjah will have to pass through Maliha and University City to go to Sharjah.

Brig Bin Darwish urged motorists to follow the new road diversions and to call the hotline number 80086767 for any complaints or queries.
