Dubai: Motorists have been reminded that they can pay their accumulated traffic fines in instalments if the amount they owe exceeds Dh3,000.

"You can pay your traffic fines in instalments if it exceeds Dh3,000, by paying 30 per cent of the total amount in advance," it was announced on Dubai Police's Twitter account on Tuesday.

According to Lieutenant Omran Abdullah, spokesperson for the Dubai Police Traffic Department, the instalment scheme only applies to cars registered in Dubai and fines for violations committed in Dubai.

What is needed

Car owners need to bring their ID or passport, their cheque book, and a bank statement for the last three months to the General Department of Traffic.

They will be asked to write an undertaking to pay the fine amount in full and will also have to submit post-dated cheques for the amount due.

Dubai Police also announced that motorists can object to any traffic violations by visiting the police station that issued the violation or the General Department of Traffic.

The reminders were issued after a story published in Arabic daily Al Bayan about an Emirati woman who accumulated Dh127,000 in traffic fines.
