Dubai: Five more stations on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro will open to passengers in the middle of October, according to a senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The stations that will open next month are Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Nakheel, Sharaf DG, First Gulf Bank and the Business Bay station on Shaikh Zayed Road. This will mean that 26 of the Red Line's total 29 stations will be in service.
The three remaining stations, which will not open in the near future due to a lack of development around them, are Energy, Jebel Ali Industrial and Jebel Ali — the last three stations when travelling towards Abu Dhabi.
Adnan Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA's Rail Agency, said the authority has instructed Metro operator Serco to prepare five of the stations for next month's opening.
He added that the Green Line will be ready to come into service in August 2011.
"We expect a sharp increase in the number of passengers once both lines and all of the stations are opened next year," Al Hammadi said.
