Abu Dhabi: Motorists in Abu Dhabi will be fined Dh500 and given four black points if they are found violating the road traffic rules during the foggy weather conditions, Abu Dhabi Police have warned Saturday.
The police have issued the warning due to unstable foggy weather conditions in the emirate particularly on the internal and external roads where visibility level dropped significantly during the morning hours. Early morning fog enveloped many parts of the UAE on Saturday.
Brigadier Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaili, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police, urged motorists to exercise extra caution while driving during the fog and maintain distance between vehicles, avoid overtaking and to use headlamps.
He cautioned drivers not to use hazards lights while driving and asked them to stop the car in the safe areas when the visibility level drops to zero and road signs are not visible. When the vehicle is parked then drivers should turn on the hazards lights to alert other drivers, he said.
According to the road traffic rule No. 178 for 2017, motorists will be fined Dh500 with four black points for violating traffic rules during foggy weather conditions and similar fines will be imposed on those people who turn on their hazards lamps while driving.

He also asked truck drivers to avoid entering the truck roads during fogs, and instructed companies which transport workers to stop commuting until the visibility is clear on the road.
In case of thick fog, the companies should delay the working hours to prevent accidents, as accidents occur due to low visibility on roads, he said.
