Dubai: Stepping up its effort to explore the future mobility solutions, Dubai will host the International Road Federation’s (IRF) inaugural Middle East Regional Congress and Exhibition in October, the Roads and Transport Authority announced on Saturday.

To be held on October 29 to 31, the event will see the participation of world leaders and regional stakeholders in the transportation sector, studying the best practices and sharing knowledge in the field of road safety and smart systems.

The congress will review the latest technological and scientific developments for improving road networks and sharing expertise between global entities.

It will also hold panel discussions to tackle the best practices and innovations in the field of smart cities, road safety designs, smart transit systems, asset management, pavements, partnerships, finance and issues of relevance to the environment and sustainability. Training workshops and field visits will also be arranged during the event.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said, “Holding this global event in Dubai is tantamount to a vote of confidence of international organisations and agencies in the standing of the UAE and its ability to host world-class events. It also comes as an acknowledgement by the IRF of the massive efforts of the Dubai government to provide top-notch infrastructure of roads network in the emirate. The congress ranks among the top specialist road congresses and will convene for the first time in the Mena region.”

The congress will also see the winners of the Global Road Achievement Awards honoured.

The IRF was established in 1948 and comprises members from 115 countries.
