Dubai: Motorists faced a bleak start to the week on Sunday due to multiple traffic accidents and heavy congestion across a number of routes in Dubai.
An accident was reported on Financial Centre Road in the direction towards Dubai Mall, which led to slow-moving traffic in and around the area.

Traffic on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) Road hardly moved as the daily rush-hour traffic worsened after a number of traffic accidents happened in the direction towards Dubai.

Motorists commuting from Sharjah into Dubai fared worse traffic than usual after an accident was reported after the National Paints Bridge.

Drivers were also urged to maintain a safe distance between vehicles to avoid accident, which was the cause of the majority of accidents.

New speed limit on Sharjah road
In Sharjah alone, over 21,000 accidents and 44 injuries took place as a result of not keeping enough distance between cars. The statistics were compiled for the first six months of 2017.
The second main reason for traffic accidents in Sharjah was using a mobile phone while driving. Poice said 11,523 motorists were caught making this traffic violation. The use of a phone while at the steering wheel resulted in 57 accidents.
Statistics also showed that 14,147 violations were recorded for not driving in the correct lane and not following the line of traffic, which caused 21 accidents and a number of injuries.
