Dubai: Dubai Police took possession of 10 hybrid vehicles, handed over by Al Futtaim Motors on Sunday, as part of ongoing efforts towards greener transport and environment sustainability.
Al Futtaim Motors handed over Toyota Prius hybrid cars which do not require external charging or any behavioural change from the driver. The Prius uses a petrol engine and an electric motor; it can be powered by the engine, the electric motor or a combination of both, where the system automatically chooses the most efficient mode for the best mileage and lowest emissions.
This results in high fuel efficiency, without compromising the driver experience, officials said.
The handover took place in the presence of Maj Gen Anas Abdul Rahman Al Matroushi, director of the General Department of Transport and Rescue at Dubai Police; and Saud Abbasi, managing director of Toyota at Al Futtaim Motors, among other senior officials from both organisations.
Maj Gen Al Matroushi said: “This comes in the context of the commitment of Dubai Police and Al Futtaim Motors together to protect lives and property and the preservation of the environment and natural resources, and improve standards of occupational health and public safety, and the use of techniques to reduce noise levels resulting from means of transportation.”
“Being the largest supplier of hybrid vehicles in the UAE, Al Futtaim Motors is very proud to be playing an active role in helping government departments achieve their environmental goals and commitment towards becoming the city with the smallest carbon footprint in the world by 2050,” said Abbasi.
Compared to conventional cars of the same engine size, the new Prius offers around 60 per cent enhanced fuel efficiency due to its improved hybrid system, delivering around 26km per litre, and saving significant amounts of fuel during its operation.
