Dubai: The number of fines issued to Dubai Metro passengers has dropped to 121 in February compared to 183 in January, a sharp decline of 34 per cent.
"The number of fines has reduced as the Metro passengers in Dubai are gradually becoming aware of the dos and don'ts while riding the trains," noted Ramadan Abdullah, Director of the Rail Operations Department at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

He said that most passengers now comply with the rules and regulations, thanks to the effective awareness campaigns and strict monitoring aimed at ensuring safety of all passengers.
RTA issued 121 offences in 22 categories contained in the 31 clauses of the Metro Fines and Offences Code.
Entering or sitting in areas designated for specific categories topped the list with 67 offences reported, followed by 13 offences to passengers found entering/exiting fare zones without paying the prescribed fare.
Some 12 people were fined for parking their vehicles for more than 24 hours in the parking lots for the Metro while seven people were fined for leaving their cars in Metro car parking lots for more than 48 hours.
Only four passengers were fined for eating and drinking in prohibited areas.
Abdullah urged Metro users to ensure the validity of their Metro fare cards and also check available balance to complete their journey.
He said passengers should read instructions displayed at all the Metro stations to avoid any violations.
