Dubai: Road works near Dubai International Airport this weekend could result in delays for people heading to the airport.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will start works at the intersection of Marrakesh Street and Airport Road near Emirates headquarters at 2am on Saturday, and it will continue for a few days.

The first phase of the work, which will last for at least eight hours, will affect motorists travelling on Marrakesh Street in the direction of Terminal 3.

Traffic will be diverted through a short detour, which can result in delays.

People can also expect further traffic disruptions throughout the week, as the final traffic diversion at the junction is put into full effect.

The roadwork is part of a larger plan for upgrading strategic junctions along Airport Road, so they can accommodate an increase in traffic, which is a result of the large number of passengers that travel to and from Dubai International Airport.

Richard Talian, executive vice-president of Strategy & Development at Dubai Airports, said, “This roadwork is a critical element of our DXB Plus programme, which is designed to boost our capacity at DXB from 90 million passengers per year to 118 million passengers while improving service.”
