Abu Dhabi: Motorists driving vehicles with worn-out or faulty tyres will come under greater scrutiny in Abu Dhabi as the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police intensify their inspection of tyres.

As part of the effort, traffic awareness campaigns will also be launched to educate drivers on the dangers of using damaged or worn out tyres, which can lead to tyre bursts resulting in fatal accidents or major injuries.

Major Suhail Sayah Al Mazroui, Chief of Western Region Traffic Section, called on drivers to regularly check the condition of their vehicle’s tyres and spare tyre before they drive, and to change the tyres if they find any breakage or cracks.

Major Al Mazroui also said that drivers who change tyres on the highways, should not leave the damaged tyres by the roadside, as this can lead to accidents.

Drivers should also follow the correct instructions to ensure the safety of their vehicle tyres by checking things such as the validity of the tyre, the temperature tolerance, the manufacturing date and the cargo load of the tyres.

Captain Abdul Rahman Al Ali, Public Relations Branch Manager at the Western Region Traffic Section, said that awareness campaigns will be carried out in the form of field visits to areas where truck drivers mainly gather along Abu Dhabi.

“This aims at raising truck drivers’ awareness about the need to check their tyres regularly, and to purchase those of high quality that fit specifications in order to avoid serious accidents resulting from tyre bursts,” he added.
