Abu Dhabi: Now motorists have 90 days to pay their traffic fines in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Police have announced on Monday.

Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Police announced 50 per cent discount for traffic violations and impounded vehicles, are to be paid within 60 days.

However, the 90 days for traffic fine payment in the Emirate will be calculated from December 2, 2017.

The discounted rule is applicable on all traffic offenses between August 1, 2016 and December 1, 2017.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Friday instructed the Ministry of Interior to reduce traffic fines across the UAE by 50 per cent.

The waiver will not be applicable for violations committed after December 1, the police clarified.

Major-General Mohammad Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said, “The fine reduction is one of Abu Dhabi Government’s plans under the Year of Giving 2017. This drive aims to spread the culture of road safety and encourage motorists to obey traffic rules.”
