Dubai: Over three million people used the metro, tram, buses and marine transport during the New Year’s holiday on December 31, 2017 and January 1, reported the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The Dubai Metro saw 1,288,316 riders, the tram 53,234 riders, and the public buses served 722,572 riders during the two days. Meanwhile, marine transport modes ferried 124,159 riders, and RTA’s taxicabs reported 1,098,592 riders, bringing the total number of public transport users during the holidays to 3,286,873.

The RTA said it is “keen on maximising the happiness and satisfaction rating of all community segments including public transport users and, therefore, seeks to provide top class transit means that are safe, convenient, reliable and fitted with the latest technological features ever used in the industry.”

The authority also confirmed an increase in the number of transport users in Dubai, highlighting the smooth mobility offered to public transport users moving to various destinations in and outside the emirate.
