Dubai: 3D maps installed at bus stations in Dubai will help passengers plan their routes more efficiently, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official has announced.

As many as 16 bus stations have been equipped with the new route maps as part of upgrade of the bus stations that RTA hopes will make the service more accessible and bring happiness to bus riders.

“The installation of newly designed stands displaying 3D bus charts is compatible with the needs of customers and users of mass transit means and main bus stations,” said Adel Mohammad Shakeri, Director of Planning and Business Development, RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

The 3D maps are characterised by high accuracy where all details of the station are visible, and service points are clearly marked.

“A spider map has also been provided depicting the path of public bus routes serving the station along with the Offences Code, all of which are integrated in a single map installed at the entry/exit points of the said stations,” said Shakeri.

He added that the maps have been designed after taking into consideration feedback and suggestions from regular commuters.

“We analysed the findings of questionnaires received through the Customer Service Department via the toll-free number 8009090 for 2014, and identified customer needs in all bus stations across Dubai. We are currently working on the provision of seats and shades for passengers, and slashing the service frequency on some routes based on public feedback and field observations,” he stated.

He also revealed that improvements are being made to the service of inquiring about lost items through dialling the RTA toll-free number and reporting the case to the staff in charge of Lost and Found items in public buses.

“Previously, valuable lost items and documents used to be dispatched to the police on a weekly basis, but now under this improved plan, such items will be dispatched every 48 hours as customers need their belongings as soon as possible,” explained Shakeri.

In an attempt to disseminate transport information more efficiently, he said: “A new plan is being developed where transport information will be on display at various facilities and landmarks of Dubai. Such information will be transmitted through RTA’s main website as well as affiliated portals such as Wojhati and Dubai Bus.”
