Dubai: Friday services of the Dubai Metro will begin at 10am instead of 1pm from October 2, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.

Commuters have been demanding for an early start on Fridays for a long time and the RTA has finally obliged.

The timings for the rest of the week will remain the same, running from 5.30am to midnight, while the service is extended until 1am on weekends.

The RTA has also made changes to the Dubai Tram services, with the suspension of loop trips of Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina.

With the cancellation of the loop service, the total transit time of the tram will be slashed from 54 minutes to 45 minutes, and the service frequency will be improved to eight minutes.

The tram services will now end at 1am daily, instead of 1.30am.
