Abu Dhabi: Ten people were killed and 54 injured in traffic accidents across the UAE during the Eid Al Adha holidays, the Ministry of Interior said on Monday.

Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za’abi, Director-General of Traffic Coordination at the ministry, said: “We have to strive further to reduce the number of injuries and deaths and broaden awareness programmes about the the dangers of road accidents and how to prevent them.”

He cautioned motorists to follow traffic rules and instructions of the police, avoid tailgating, stopping vehicles at undesignated spots, obstructing other vehicular movement, and maintain safe distance between vehicles.

He further emphasised that motorists should avoid using mobile phones while driving as it lessens the focus on the road and leads to accidents.

He urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules for their own safety and the safety of other road users. They should understand the dangers and damages that accidents incur, he said.
