The higher organisation committee of the World Air Games (WAG) 2015 kicked off their international promotional campaign with a street show and press conference in Lausanne, Switzerland last weekend.

Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, Dubai Sports Council (DSC) lit a ceremonial torch and handed it over to Obaid Salim Saeed Al Za’abi, the UAE’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva in the presence of Yousuf Al Hammadi, Tournament Director of WAG and John Grubbström, President, FAI to kick-start the campaign.

The ceremony was held at the Olympic Museum and Al Hammadi disclosed the latest developments that have been accomplished in organising possibly the biggest event in the history of the Air Games at the end of this year. Hareb and Al Hammadi were accompanied by Mohammad Yousuf, Assistant Tournament Director, Majid Abdul Rahman Al Bastaki, Head, Media Committee, Salem Akram, Head of the PR Committee, Ahmad Al Marzouqi, Deputy Head, Media Committee and Rami Al Nabulsi, Deputy Head, Finance Committee.

FAI President Grubbström was confident Dubai would put up the best Games ever. “Through my observations and my own experience of the past I can easily say we will witness the greatest organisation of a World Air Games in December. We have been in close contact with the organising committee who have assured us they will not stop at anything in staging a true spectacle for our sport,” he said.

Al Hammadi assured the air sport community that Dubai would go all out in staging a truly memorable WAG. “Today Dubai is considered the capital of aero sports. This is due to the excellent facilities we have at Skydive Dubai and the great vision shown by our leaders. We will do everything in our capacity to stage a great and memorable Games,” he said.

The FAI’s primary goal in organising the WAG is to showcase air sports to general public while promoting public participation. The last WAG were held in Italy in 2009.

The World Air Games is an international air sports event organised by Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), inspired by the Olympic Games and held every four years. So far athletes from nearly 30 countries from across the world have confirmed their participation at WGA 2015.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, DSC, the WAG 2015 will take place at Skydive Dubai from December 2 to 12.
