Sharjah: Arab and Western musicians and bands from 13 countries will perform at the nine-day Sharjah World Music Festival in January.

The festival, which will run from January 6 to 14, will bring together 24 award-winning international artists from France, Spain, Holland, Ukraine, and the United States,

One night of the festival will commemorate famous Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, and a piano competition to spot new talent.

Music fans will enjoy a variety of genres including Arabic contemporary pop, Arabic traditional, Indian sitar, soul jazz, oud performances, and Gypsy Latin and flamenco.

The festival will take place at several locations around Sharjah city. Concerts will be held at the Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Masrah Al Qasba theatre, and The Flag Island theatre.

Meanwhile, outdoor events will take place at Al Majaz Waterfront and Al Qasba.

“We have an extraordinary line up of talent and some of the most passionate musicians from across the world,” said Furat Qaddouri, an artist who is also the festival’s manager.

“The audience will be treated to a truly global festival and audiences of all tastes will be able to enjoy sublime expressions of their favourite art.”
