Dubai: The annual Ramadan in Dubai initiative starts on Thursday (June 18), featuring a variety of spiritual and social events.

The initiative has been launched by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), for five successive editions.

Over the next four weeks, residents and visitors can learn more about Ramadan’s values while enjoying a series of activities. During this time, there will be the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, Dubai Ramadan Forum, Ramadan Tents and the Ramadan Night Market.

Details on the line up are available on ramadanindubai.ae. Dubai’s retail sector will also launch special offers, deals and discounts while malls will host Ramadan-themed events.

The forum, held at Dubai World Trade Centre, will include lectures by famous Muslim preachers, Islamic exhibitions, mass iftar gatherings, a contest for young Muslims and other events.

The Quran Award will feature recitation and memorisation competitions at the Dubai Chamber building.

For shoppers, the Ramadan Night Market will present over 360 retailers from around the region, selling clothing, jewellery, health and beauty products, and home appliances.

Also, several leading hotels and public places will host Ramadan tents for iftar, as well as for meals during suhour, including those at Asateer (Atlantis The Palm), Downtown The Ramadan Tent with a View in Downtown Dubai – Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard, and The Majlis at Dubai World Trade Centre.

What’s more, there will be sporting events and venues for exercise and games after iftar. Dubai’s newest Sportsplex opens its doors in Ramadan offering patrons indoor sports.

Ramadan in Dubai is a part of this year’s Dubai Summer Calendar, which comprises an array of special events. In addition to Ramadan in Dubai, the season will also feature Eid in Dubai – Eid Al Fitr (July 18–July 22), Modhesh World (July 9–August 29), Dubai Summer Surprises (July 23–September 5) and Eid in Dubai – Eid Al Adha (September 24–October 2).
