Dubai: Three dimensional and other high-tech, interactive platforms exhibiting the UAE’s culture and heritage will soon be on display for millions of passengers travelling through Dubai Airports.

The initiative is a joint venture of Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre and Dubai Airports for which both entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday.

It is aimed at enhancing the centre’s efforts to raise awareness of UAE national heritage, particularly among visitors and tourists, officials said at a press conference after the signing ceremony.

The MoU was signed by Jamal Al Hai, vice-president, Dubai Airports, and Abdullah Hamdan Bin Dalmook, CEO of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre.

Apart from showcasing the culture and heritage of the country, the agreement includes the allocation of internal and external sites in all three terminals of Dubai Airports to raise awareness of the centre’s activities and events including the Fazza Championships.

At these locations, the public will be inspired by interactive exhibition stands, which incorporate digital platforms featuring Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre’s sports and championship events.

Interested members of the public will be provided the opportunity to understand and register for any activities, sports and tournaments they may take interest in.

“We are expecting to handle 82 million passengers this year. Through this platform, we are expecting a lot of visitors [flying through Dubai] to come to the UAE. It will encourage the tourists to visit the country,” said Al Hai.

“Dubai Airports will provide many forms of support to the centre, in order to promote heritage and championship initiatives that highlight Dubai’s popular national identity to its visitors. In addition, the centre will support us in celebrating national events, especially the UAE National Day,” he said.

Bin Dalmook said the idea is also to bridge the gap in cultural understanding among different nationalities passing through the airports here and also to highlight the events conducted by the centre.

“Almost 70 per cent of the passengers passing through our airports are on transit. They don’t have an opportunity to step out and visit the country. This will encourage them to do that,” said Samya Ketait, vice-president for Government Excellence and National Identity at Dubai Airports.
