Sharjah: More than 86,000 Chinese tourists visited Sharjah and booked in its hotels during 2016 with an increase of 63 per cent compared to 2015 with 53,000 tourists, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) said.

Khalid Jasem Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, stressed the keenness of the authority to benefit from the Chinese market potential in order to achieve sustainable development over the course of the coming years.

He noted that the visa waiver for Chinese tourists has significantly helped increase the number of tourists in the recent years and that Sharjah offers Chinese tourists a number of attractive destinations.

Al Midfa was speaking during a workshop recently organised by the authority with the participation of major Chinese marketing companies operating in the country.
