Dubai: The iconic Burj Khalifa will dazzle residents with its new colours as organisers prepare to ring in the Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dog.

Emaar Properties said that for nine days, the Burj Khalifa will mark the new year with “a spectacular dragon-themed light and sound show in Downtown Dubai.”

Visitors can catch the new ‘Light Up’ show from February 16 to 24, which pays tribute to the thousands of Chinese residents in the UAE and visitors from China.

The daily shows will run at 8pm and 10pm.

“The show starts with a flying dragon taking flight from the Great Wall of China, soaring high in the sky, and touring over Dubai's landmarks including the upcoming Dubai Creek Tower before marking a splash at The Dubai Fountain,” said Emaar.

“In all majestic grace, it then swirls up and flies around Burj Khalifa. At the pinnacle of the tower, the dragon releases a shining pearl from its mouth on to the spire,” said the property developer.

The Chinese New Year’s celebrations falls in the middle of Burj Khalifa’s current light and laser show, which replays the 2018 New Year’s Eve show ‘Light Up’ everyday until the end of March.

According to organisers, there are 253,000 Chinese nationals living in Dubai.
