Sharjah: With a total of 2,351 traffic violations so far this year, police in the eastern region of Sharjah have announced they will continue their extensive campaign to spread awareness about the dangers of reckless driving, speeding, and driving without a licence.
The summer campaign “Safe Summer”, which started in July and will run until the end of August, targets traffic violators and aims to reduce the number of fines issued during the next few months.
Through the campaign, Sharjah Police also aim to ask drivers of all ages to be alert and follow traffic rules and regulations on the road as there has been an increase in the number of violations.
The campaign’s goals also include the extensive monitoring of roads through traffic checkpoints in the eastern region of Sharjah, which includes Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn.
Sharjah Police said that drivers will be asked for their licence and registration documents at the checkpoints and will be fined for not carrying them while driving. Drivers will also be fined for tinting their windows more than the permitted level and making fundamental changes in their vehicle’s mechanics. Other violations include speeding, changing lanes abruptly and reckless driving.
Of the 2,351 violations some 23 cases have been referred to the public prosecutor in Sharjah.
The campaign was carried out after a series of awareness campaigns that have taken place throughout the year as a tool by the Ministry of Interior to ensure road safety in the emirate.
