Abu Dhabi: Over 1,200 violation tickets were issued in Al Ain for drifting and dangerous driving displays outside wedding halls during 2012 and the first two months of the current year, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police announced today.

In light of this, the directorate is setting up areas designed for individuals to showcase their driving skills in coordination with the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, according to Brigadier Engineer Hussain Ahmad Al Harthi, Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police

Some of the violations included reckless and dangerous driving, racing on the road, escaping from police officers and driving unsafe vehicles.

Al Harthi stated that the police is systematically dealing with youth who practise drifting and drag racing by closely monitoring internal and external roads and strictly enforcing the law.

The official added that such practices risk the lives of drivers and that of f others and can cause deaths or major injuries, in addition to damaging public property and vehicles.
