Abu Dhabi: A medical voluntary team has successfully conducted two heart surgeries on two girls with congenital heart diseases, as part of the ‘Heart to Heart’ campaign for the early detection of heart diseases.

The campaign was launched last month by Al Hilal Bank in collaboration with Zayed Giving Initiative, Saudi German Hospital, Dar Al Ber Society and the Emirates Heart Centre Abu Dhabi.

Dr Adel Al Shamry, CEO of Zayed Giving Initiative, said the campaign, which was launched under the umbrella of the ‘Joud Bil Khair’ (Do good) programme, aims to promote the spirit of giving and encourage medical, moral and financial support for children with congenital heart diseases.

Aside from providing financial and medical aid, the ‘Heart to Heart’ campaign aims to spread awareness about congenital heart disease and the importance of early detection. Community members can also contribute to the cause by logging on to Al Hilal Bank’s social media channels. The bank will match each tweet of #Joud_Bil_Khair with Dh5 which it will add to the running fund for the planned surgeries. Other live activities and community-supporting events will be held throughout the campaign period.

The primary goal of the campaign is to rally financial support for the surgeries of 10 children. As part of the campaign, mobile medical units will pay visits to various locations across the country where free exams will be conducted for children to check for the symptoms of congenital heart disease. Free cardiac blood tests will also be conducted for adults.
