Dubai: The Medical Fitness Centre in Satwa will be closed temporarily for expansion from June 6, announced the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on Wednesday.
To ensure that residents in and around the area are not inconvenienced, a new medical fitness centre in Karama will be operational from June 9.
The expansion is in response to the demand due to an increase in workforce and overall population growth.
Located near the Emirates Post Office in Karama, the new centre has thrice the capacity of the centre in Satwa, accommodating 2,000 customers per day. However, it only offers the express service.
Maisa Al Bustani, Director of Medical Fitness at the DHA, explained that the express service has three options, which returns results within four hours, 24 hours or 48 hours. It costs Dh690, Dh470 and Dh370, respectively. The regular service costs Dh260.
Maisa told Gulf News, “The results for the regular service are delivered within five to seven days. To clarify, the express service will continue at several other Fitness Centres including Al Mankhool and Al Muhaisnah and Al Twar.”
The new centre is spread over 20,000 sq ft, and features state-of-the-art medical facilities and a VIP lounge, kids’ play area, coffee shop, and reading area.
Of the temporary closure of the Medical Fitness Centre in Satwa, one of the oldest, Maisa said that it could accommodate 700 customers per day. Expansion and renovation work will soon be under way.
Of the Authority’s expansion plans, Maisa said, “The DHA is customer-focused and therefore every year we undertake expansion plans. In fact, we recently carried out expansion plans for the Al Quoz medical fitness centre and the centre now caters to 2,000 patients per day. We will be adding two new centres in Deira before year-end.”
She added, “Medical fitness is an individual-oriented service and customers need to undergo mandatory blood test and X-rays. They need to complete all the screening required and therefore the process can seem time-consuming. However it is required only once in two years.”
