Dubai: The Minstry of Health-initiated ongoing national immunisation campaign against measles has had a successful run and is set to conclude by November-end, said Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Centres and Clinics at the Ministry of Health. He lauded his staff for the successful implementation of the initiative.

The success of the campaign was attributed to the key cooperation and strong support extended by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Affairs, NGOs and relevant stakeholders.

Dr Al Rand praised the cooperation of the local communities that helped in raising awareness on the importance of immunisation, especially against measles. “We commend the strong cooperation between the Ministry of Health and its partners — the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in making this initiative successful. We also call on all sectors of society to extend their support to this immunisation campaign as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which places the UAE among the countries that have achieved high coverage in ensuring protection and safety against communicable diseases,” he said.

Dr Nada Al Marzouqi, Acting Director of Preventive Medicine Department at the health ministry, said: “The campaign, which was carried out in schools, health centres and clinics, include DPT viral MMR against measles, rubella, mumps, for children in the age group of 1-18. It’s an additional dose to raise immunity within the target population and update medical vaccines record to ensure they have the necessary vaccines.”
