Apart from saving time in identifying and verifying the data of customers, the use of ID cards will help build accurate and up-to-date data in the health sector according to a statement issued by Emirates ID on Saturday.

The electronic link between the health sector and Emirates ID will also update the population register for birth certificates and death certificates.

The ID card holders can receive services promptly but the card is not mandatory to access the health services at present.

The agreement was signed by Dr Ali Al Khoury, Emirates ID Director General, Zaid Al Saksak, Director General of Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, Managing Director of Seha, and Michael Peters, Daman CEO.

Abu Dhabi Health Authority will establish rules and regulations for the health services sector in the emirate to adopt ID cards as a basic identification document for identifying the health insurance card holders when they visit the emirate's hospitals, clinics and medical centres.

In future all health services providers and insurance companies in the emirate will have to link the patient's medical file number with the individual's identity card number once it is available.
