Dubai: More than a thousand labourers were screened for free at a medical camp comprising 20 paramedics and 70 doctors in Al Quoz.

The initiative was a joint collaboration between charities AKMG (Association Of Kerala Medical Graduates), Dubai Chapter, and Friends of India (FOI).

Labourers were screened for hypertension and diabetes as well as Hepatitis C. Among the 1,138 patients, 29 per cent were smokers, 43 per cent consumed alcohol, 13.18 per cent were hypertensive and 9.5 per cent diabetic.

The medical team included specialties like General Medicine, General Surgery, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, Urology, Dental and Orthopaedics. Free medicines were also distributed.
