Dubai: A new campaign aiming to promote the awareness of health personnel regarding seasonal flu was launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday.

The campaign, which runs until December 22, targets health workers with an aim to boost their efficiency through delivering relevant lectures and providing training courses that will introduce them to modern methods used in the prevention of influenza and its risks.

The move comes in line with the directives of Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Centres and Clinics, said, “The launch of the campaign is part of the national plan to combat acute respiratory infections and aims to support public health in line with the ministry’s strategic goals to upgrade the UAE’s health sector and protect the society against communicable diseases.”

The sustainability of awareness campaigns, Al Rand added, will definitely curb and prevent the transmission of infections. Identifying the disease, its underlying causes, symptoms and protection methods represent the cornerstone for preventing its spread, he added.

The ministry decided to intensify awareness campaigns against seasonal flu through providing training courses for workers so that they acquire necessary information about flu, its symptoms and how it is transmitted and detected, Al Rand said.
