Abu Dhabi: The Health Authority Abu Dhabi has launched an electronic directory of physicians in a step towards improving public access to healthcare information.

It will provide periodically updated information on licensed physicians in the emirate.

The directory's website — www.haad.ae/ADPD — allows people to search for physicians by medical topic or health issue, location (Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or Western Region), by the doctor's name and surname; or the health centre where the physician works.

"The directory aims at providing necessary tools to allow residents to access health care in the emirate of Abu Dhabi," said Health Authority Abu Dhabi CEO Zaid Al Siksek.

"The initiative aims also at improving self care and providing continuously updated information to the public to help them choose the physician they find suitable through a transparent electronic system," he said.

The directory is designed to provide a picture and short description of a physician's background.

It has also teamed up with the Minhaal programme, a website for patients and professionals to learn more about a disease.

The authority said there were 5,142 doctors, 8,142 nurses and 5,630 allied health professionals working in Abu Dhabi.
