Dubai: Dubai Hospital achieved an average occupancy rate of 85 per cent in 2015, according to a top Dubai Health Authority (DHA) official.

Dr Abdul Rahman Al Jasmi, CEO of of the hospital, said that the high utilisation of the hospital highlighted the confidence of patients in the hospital and its health-care professionals.

Al Jasmi pointed out that in 2015, the ICU occupancy was 100 per cent — this included medical, surgical and coronary care units.

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) capacity was 90 per cent; this was after the recent expansion of the NICU.

The hospital has 26 specialities and subspecialities. For certain specialised services such as paediatric surgery for congenital heart diseases, cancer treatment and cochlear implants, the hospital receives a number of cases from abroad.

Dubai Hospital has 449 beds for in-patients, 169 beds for day-care surgeries, 46 beds for dialysis, 57 beds for emergency and 8 main OT rooms and 4 minor OT rooms.

Al Jasmi said from 2007 until now, the hospital has always been accredited and reaccredited by Joint Commission International (JCI). The hospital is recognised by the American Heart Association as a centre for basic and advanced life support.

It is also a registered centre for the MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians) exams and the cardiac team won the Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Scientific Medical Award last year. The emergency department of the hospital implements an international triage system to prioritise patients depending on the gravity of their medical condition.

In 2015, the emergency department received 133,826b patients, which is approximately 350 to 450 patients per day. The hospital treated 30,694 in-patients and conducted 10,324 surgeries. The hospital’s out-patient clinics received 227,738 patients, which exceeds 900 patients per day.
