Dubai: The governing body of Dubai Health Care City (DHCC) recognised and honoured 13 clinical facilities in the free zone for their innovative initiatives and top safety standards, which have made a positive difference to the lives of patients, in a ceremony held on Tuesday.

Launched in January this year, the DHCA Excellence Awards 2017 highlights the work of clinical facilities in DHCC that have demonstrated a combination of exceptional quality standards, innovation and vision.

The awards were conferred on the winners in the presence of Humaid Al Qutami, chairman of the Board and director-general, Dubai Health Authority (DHA); Khalid Al Shaikh Al Shamsi, CEO, DHCA; Dr Ramadan Al Beloushi, CEO of Dubai Healthcare City Authority-Regulatory (DHCR); members of the DHCA board and leadership team; clinical partners, and senior government officials.

The inaugural edition had two awards — ‘Healthcare Innovation Award’, which showcased innovative practices and projects in patient care, and the ‘Outpatient Clinical Quality Award’ which recognised outpatient clinics that have achieved continuous high compliance with the outpatient quality standards of Dubai Health Care City Authority-Regulatory, the independent regulatory body in DHCC.

The ‘Healthcare Innovation Award’ had three recipients and the ‘Outpatient Clinical Quality Award’ 10 recipients. The first place for the ‘Healthcare Innovation Award’ was awarded to Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital - Dubai for introducing surgical treatment for intractable epilepsy in adults and children that has drastically improved the quality of life for those suffering from epilepsy. It is the UAE’s only comprehensive epilepsy programme which deals with and manages complex epilepsy surgery cases.

The second place was awarded to Mediclinic City Hospital for its prevention programme of Severe Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; ROP affects premature babies and leads to blindness in a matter of weeks. The programme, designed according to international best practices, has had a huge impact on infant safety and quality of life.

The third place was awarded to Dr Majdi El-Halik Paediatric Physical and Mental Rehabilitation Centre, for being the first of its kind intensive multidisciplinary and holistic rehabilitation centre in Dubai Healthcare City for physically and mentally challenged children.

For the ‘Outpatient Clinics Quality Award’, the 10 winners were: Child Early Intervention Medical Center; Dubai Gynaecology & Fertility Centre; HearLife Clinic; German Limbtech Orthopedic Technology; Emirates Integrated Medical Centre; Magrabi Eye Hospital – Outpatient Surgical Clinic; Eye Consultants; Primavera Medical Centre; Uro Diagnostic Clinic; and The Family Therapy Clinic.

Speaking at the ceremony, Al Shamsi, said, “The initiative contributes to the development of the health sector in the emirate; alleviates the suffering of patients; and improves the overall health of the community. To ensure these outcomes, it is a shared responsibility, a continuous pursuit of excellence and, ultimately, a collective achievement.”
