Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on Monday launched a health television channel and Qiyas, a smart rating system to benchmark all public and private hospitals in the emirate.

The health channel was launched by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Arab Health 2018.

The app-based health channel that will run 24 hours, will cover all of DHA’s health facilities documenting important health breakthroughs and will include interviews of health care providers and important health tips for consumers.

Qiyas a rating system for all public and private hospitals will evaluate all the facilities for the people on a quarterly basis and release results to the people on an annual basis. Ahmed Omar, Principal Clinical Quality Control office at the health regulatory authority of DHA told Gulf News: “The rating system is part of the Dubai Health Strategic plan to help guide the public about the standards of a health care facility. It will use five criteria such as patient safety index, clinical quality, patient happiness, the operations of a facility and other financial indicators to rate a hospital or polyclinic.”

The first rating will be made available to the public in October 2018 after which the system will be continuous and ongoing and its ratings being released to public every year. Omar added that this was being done to create international benchmarks for quality health care and was modelled on the 100 top hospitals rating in the United States.
