Will Goodwin, managing director of Priory Group in the Middle East, said: “Every year many people reach the point of needing mental health support. Our specialists can provide confidential bespoke support and treatment tailored to particular needs and goals.”
Mental health issues is a growing concern around the world, and the UAE is no different.
Two of the top three causes of ill health are anxiety and depression, according to previous Gulf News reports. Statistics also indicate that as much as four per cent of the population could be clinically depressed, while mild depression may be affecting up to 15 per cent of the country.
The new clinic also treats those with mental health issues including post-natal depression, and life difficulties related to relationships, work and bereavement.
Dr Saaed Islam, Priory's Middle East Medical Director, explained that the wellbeing centre caters to both Emiratis and expats.
“We know…there is a demand for accessible mental health support and treatment and I believe that nobody – whatever their age, gender, profession or culture - should ever be scared or ashamed to seek help.”
A 2013 study by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) revealed that about one in five teenage students in Dubai showed symptoms of depression, with about 10 students having committed suicide since 2014 in the UAE.
“There are many reasons why a region or country sees a higher prevalence of a specific condition but we hope that by offering a friendly and discreet service, we can play an active part in identifying and addressing these issues and supporting our patients towards long-term recovery,” said Dr Islam.
The Centre has seven rooms for one-to-one patient consultations, two group therapy rooms, and flexible consulting hours including the option of evening appointments.
Treatment and therapy covered by private medical insurance is also available at the clinic.
