Dubai: With Eid just around the corner, doctors at the Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA) Smart Clinic has advised residents to exercise caution, asking them to resist the temptation to overeat. After monthlong fast from sunrise to sunset, it is important to gradually prepare one’s body to resume regular eating, experts advise.

Doctors shared some tips and advice on how residents could maintain their health after Ramadan and answered their questions on the topic via social media.

“I advise people to start their Eid with a cup of tea and a healthy light breakfast to gradually prepare their body for their new eating habit after Ramadan,” said Sitelbanat Makki, senior clinical dietitian at Latifa Hospital.

Eid is a time where families get together and at these gatherings, all kinds of sweets and juices are served. Makki advised the public to resist the urge to overeat, but eat in moderation.

As for those wishing to maintain the weight, Makki advised them to drink a cup of water an hour before and after eating to feel full and eat less. She also advised the public to eat well-rounded healthy meals that contain proteins, vegetables and dairy.

To avoid getting bloated and suffering from other stomach problems because of changes in the eating habit, Makki advised people to not sleep immediately after eating and avoid fatty and fried foods.

Dr Jalal Nafach, consultant endocrinologist at Dubai Diabetes Centre, advised diabetics to avoid drinking juices during Eid as they are high on sugar, and asked them to opt for water instead.
